Introduction to Embroidery with Wemyss School of NeedleworkArt
16 Iunie 12:30 - 18:00
From Gucci bags to Levi’s 501s, embroidery is everywhere in fashion right now. Fire up your own creative embroidery project with this one-day introductory workshop taught by the famous Wemyss School of Needlework. Learn a selection of technical hand embroidery stitches, create a stunning sample and explore how to apply all the same techniques in your own designs.
Embroidered designs have offered signs of power, wealth and status since time immemorial. Indeed, today’s modern embroidery techniques can be traced back to the Far East before 1,000 BC. In this introductory workshop you will explore the vast array of stitches and wide variety of techniques to complete a selection of modern designs, including: back stitch, chain stitch, stem stitch, button hole, herringbone, satin stitch and French knots. After completion of a set design, there is an opportunity to experiment and consider how to apply all the same techniques in your own designs.
Taught in a small, informal group, this is the perfect class for all newcomers to hand embroidery. The class includes a set design for you to work on along with all the materials and equipment you need to complete the project. You will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day but, if you prefer, you may like to bring your own embroidery scissors.
Should participants wish to acquire a ring frame, yarn and other equipment to continue their work at home, a kit will be available for sale on the day for £25 from Dovecot Shop. A broad range of textile related products are sold in Dovecot Shop, and will be available with a 10% discount on the day.
Tickets includes materials, equipment and welcome refreshments:
